This is a nice Easton aluminium handlebar that is a little bit heavier than the Answer Hyperlite 148 gram handlebar that came after this one.
Taperlites where made by Answer, a Motorcycle company IIRC. Later on they purchased rights to the Manitou fork and also produced the Manitou frames until focusing on suspension forks primarily.
As far as non riser mountain bike handlebars go, these where pretty much top of the line for a moment. Off course you could run a titanium handlebar for increased comfort, but with the advent of front suspension, the idea was to have a super stiff front end with a hungry suspension fork eating away irregular dents in the bike path.
It is very pretty in anodized blue color. The problem with anodized colors are that with time the color fades away leaving a not so nice sheen. But somehow this handlebar survived time.
The way the logo is left unanodized is really nice, I think they put a sticker on the handlebar and then anodize it, after colors been stuck on the aluminium, the sticker is removed leaving the cool Taperlite and Easton logo on the handlebar.
Anyone know how they make splatter and fades?
