Shimano XTR front and rear hub FH-M900 HB-M900

Shimano XTR front and rear hub FH-M900 HB-M900

The Shimano M900 hubset is a beautiful front and rear hub with matching quick releases. Comparing the front hub to the previous generation –Deore XT front hub- the obvious difference is off course the nice XTR silver finish.

The rear hub is suitable for an 8-speed cassette such as the amazing Shimano M900 lightweight XTR 8-speed cassette. Maybe a bit heavy but still cool it is a stunning duo and unrivalled in strength when matched with CNC-toy hubs from the same era.

This is the more rare 36-hole edition, only laced up once but still used, these are maybe too cool to let go?

And what about the XTR quick releases?

Yes they are heavy and that f”n plastic o-ring dries out and splits apart every 15-year or so but clamp them down and they will never loose their grip. Yes you read right, you do not need to twist, cam, flip, tighten, torque or lock anything down, you just flip the lever and go out zooming into the woods.

And finally, they have that important XTR logo that says: “I am better than you”

One day when I retire my old bike, I’m going to polish it up and hang it on the wall – and just stare at my XTR 36 hole hubs. Ahhh, nostalgia. If they made XTR dinner plates in the 90s I’d have had a set in my flat 🙂
